Weeks 7 & 8: From Production to Performance – The Final Stretch!

Posted: 11 Mar 2025

Just like that, the final weeks of the Music Mentoring workshop arrived faster than we could have imagined! Over weeks 7 & 8, the trainees focused on music production, industry insights, and preparing for their big show case.

The trainees had the opportunity to create their own beats using Logic Pro, taking their song writing from paper to full production. For many, this was their first time working with Logic Pro, and they picked up essential skills on how to produce, arrange, and add their vocals to a beat. Those who already had experience with the software stepped up to support their peers, making it a collaborative and hands-on learning experience.

We were fortunate to have two incredible industry guests share their expertise.

Cordell Johnson – A freelance Director, content creator, and public speaker, who delivered a content production masterclass. He shared insights on visual storytelling, branding, and how artists can elevate their presence through content creation.

Ricole Appleby – An A&R Consultant at King Lear, who is currently shaping the label’s original compositions and artist roster. She provided and exclusive look into her career, including her time as a Creative Sync A&R Manager at Universal Music, where she worked on pitching music for TV, film, advertising, and gaming. Her insights gave the trainees a behind the scenes perspective on the business side of the industry.

Rehearsing for the Big Showcase

With their family, friends and members of The Hive set to attend, the trainees took time to rehearse, refine their stage presence, and prepare to deliver a powerful performance. They practiced how to own the stage, engage with the audience, and bring energy to the set.

Interestingly, within the group two trainees realised that performing wasn’t their passion, but that didn’t stop them from making an impact! Instead, they took the lead on production and event set up, ensuring that the showcase ran smoothly from behind the scenes.

These last two weeks, were transformational, showing just how much the trainees have grown in confidence, skills and understanding of the music industry. Their hard work, passion, and collaboration brought everything together beautifully, and we couldn’t be prouder of their journey. The stage is set, the talent is ready, now it’s time to shine.

Another BIG THANK YOU to Maxwell D for his time and knowledge within the industry, he has been a great facilitator, mentor and support to the group.
