Week 5 & 6: From Writing to Recording & Industry Insights

Posted: 2 Mar 2025

The Music mentoring workshop reached an exciting stage during weeks 5 & 6, as the trainees took their song writing to the next level- recording their own vocals!

Having done a brilliant job with their lyrics, each trainee had the opportunity to lay down vocals, whether through ad-libs, verses, hooks or harmonies. Watching them bring their words to life in the studio was an incredible moment, marking a major milestone in their journey. Maxwell D was a great support to the trainees, bringing out their confidence by encouraging them to keep practicing.

To elevate their skills even further, we welcomed special guests who shared their expertise:

Diana – An audio engineer and content producer, who delivered an insightful mixing and mastering masterclass, teaching the group the importance of polishing a track for release.

Lucky G – A music producer, licensing and sync professional, who helped trainees refine their lyrics, delivery, and overall sound on the track. Lucky G has featured on The Kardashians, The Boys, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Ozark, and Westworld. In film and gaming, his compositions have enhanced projects like Ice Age: Collision Course and Grand Theft Auto V.

But music isn’t just about creativity, it’s also a business. The group took part in an important financial literacy session, covering:

  • Freelancing & Tax Implications
  • Earned Vs Passive Income
  • Saving, Investing & Pensions
  • Managing Time Effectively

They were even tasked with drafting an 18-month financial plan giving them a real world perspective on budgeting as an artist.

To top it off, we had an inspiring visit from RemiBurgz, BBC 1Xtra Host, producer, Artist Manager, A & R and Entertainer. Joining the group on Canalaside MBA, she shared her journey in the industry and dropped invaluable gems on what it takes to get music on the radio. She even offered to stay connected, allowing the mentees to reach out for further guidance as they progress in their careers.

With only a few weeks left, the trainees are gaining not just skills, but the knowledge, confidence and connections to take their music to the next level.
